PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an optical type rotary encoder that has little restriction in dimensions of an applicable oil seal.SOLUTION: The optical type rotary encoder includes a housing 9 which has first and second coaxial bearing holes 9a and 9b in which first and second bearings 6 and 7 are fitted, and which contacts with the outer periphery of the oil seal 11 and holds this, a light-emitting element 4 which is installed in the housing 9, with the optical axis set on the axial direction of the first and second bearing holes 9a and 9b, a shaft 1 which keeps a disk 2 attached to one end part, while the other end part works as a rotation input part, and which is adhered to the first and second bearings 6 and 7 fitted in the first and second bearing holes 9a and 9b, a light-receiving element 5 which is disposed opposite to the light-emitting element 4 with the disk 2 positioned between, a cylindrical collar 10 which is mounted on the other end side of the shaft 1 adjacently to the second bearing 7, and the oil seal 11 which is mounted on the outer periphery of the collar 10. |
