Disclosed are a preparation method for a fluorine-containing olefin/vinyl alcohol copolymer with sufficiently high productivity and excellent heat resistance in which the loss of quality from coloration has been suppressed, and a fluorine-containing olefin/vinyl alcohol copolymer obtained by means of said preparation method. Specifically disclosed are: a preparation method for a fluorine-containing olefin/vinyl alcohol copolymer that involves a polymerization step for copolymerizing a specific fluorine-containing olefin and a vinyl ether in which the hydrogen atoms of a hydroxyl group in a vinyl alcohol are substituted with a protection group that can be deprotected, and a deprotection step in which the aforementioned protection group in polymerization units derived from the aforementioned vinyl ether in the copolymer obtained by said polymerization step is substituted by a hydrogen atom and a hydroxyl group is generated; and a fluorine-containing olefin/vinyl alcohol copolymer obtained by means of said preparation method.
