A bearing device for an axle of a railway vehicle, having high sealing performance achieved while achieving low torque and low heat generation characteristics. A bearing device (1) for an axle, provided with an inner ring (4) which is affixed to an axle (2) of a railway vehicle, an outer ring (5) which is affixed to an axle box of the railway vehicle, and double-row tapered rollers (6) which are arranged between the raceway surfaces (4a) of the inner ring (4) and the raceway surfaces (5a) of the outer ring (5). The openings between the inner ring (4) and the outer ring (5) are each sealed by a labyrinth seal (Ls) having at least one each of an axial labyrinth which extends in the axial direction and a radial labyrinth which extends in the radial direction. Either the axial labyrinth and/or the radial labyrinth, the axial and radial labyrinths forming the labyrinth seal (Ls), is formed between an outer ring-side seal member which is mounted to the outer ring (5) and the inner ring (4) or the inner ring-side seal member which is mounted to the inner ring (4). |
