PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device which has prolonged life by suppressing a temperature difference between an upper part and a lower part of a light emitting tube both in posture in which a projector is installed on a desk or the like and in posture in which the projector is suspended from the ceiling, and to provide a projector.SOLUTION: The light source device 10 includes the light emitting tube 20, a reflector 30 and a holding member 40 holding the reflector 30. The holding member 40 includes: an air intake 41 introducing cooling air for cooling the light emitting tube 20; channels 42a and 42b provided to be branched to an upper side and a lower side of the light emitting tube 20 from the air intake 41 and allowing the cooling air to circulate; a switching mechanism 50 provided at a branching part between the air intake 41 and the channels 42a and 42b, and allowing the cooling air to selectively flow into the channel located on the upper side of the light emitting tube 20 out of the channels 42a and 42b; and opening/closing mechanisms 53a and 53b arranged downstream from the switching mechanism 50 and closing the channel located on the lower side of the light emitting tube 20 out of the channels 42a and 42b. |
