The present invention provides methods for preventing or treating infections, especially bacterial infections, by administering selective inhibitors of ATP production to inhibit glycolytic enzymes, such as glyceraidehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH). As such, the present invention further provides methods for preventing or treating inflammation and sepsis associated with infections, as well as increased wound healing and decreased wound scarring.
