摘要 <p>Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device (1) provided with a liquid crystal panel (13) for displaying an input video signal, a backlight (10) for irradiating the liquid crystal panel, a light source light emission control unit for controlling light emission of the backlight (10), and a region detection unit (11c) for detecting a parallel movement region (13T) that moves parallel within video shown by the input video signal. The parallel movement region (13T) means, for example, a region in which video is panned and scrolled and a telop region. The light source light emission control unit is exemplified by a control CPU (15) and a light source drive unit (16). The control CPU (15) performs light emission control of light-emitting regions (10a-10g) by controlling the light source drive unit (16), the light emission control including intermittent control. Regarding the light-emitting region (10g) corresponding to the parallel movement region (13T), the intermittent control is performed only on the light-emitting region (10g), or performed on the light-emitting region (10g) so that the light-out period thereof becomes longer than those of the other light-emitting regions (10a-10f). Consequently, regarding a display region having a high possibility that video breaks down, the breakdown of the video can be prevented from being emphasized by the intermittent control of a light source.</p>
