The disclosed base station broadcasts a signal indicating whether or not that base station can transition to an energy saving state. The disclosed mobile station stores the aforementioned signal in addition to an identifier during area registration of CSG cells, and during area identification, area identification is performed taking into account the aforementioned signal. By this means, in a wireless communication system, mobile stations can perform area identification taking into account base stations in an energy saving state.
