In the disclosed control device, an ECU uses a pre-prepared map or the like to compute (S10) an allowable discharge power (Wout). Next, the ECU sets (S20) a VH upper limit to a first upper limit (V1). If the driving mode is not set to "CD" (i.e., the driving mode is set to "CS") or the engine is running ("NO" at S30), the ECU jumps to S60. On the other hand, if the driving mode is set to "CD" and the engine is stopped ("YES" at S30), the ECU increases (S40) the allowable discharge power (Wout) and changes (S50) the VH upper limit to a second upper limit (V2), which is lower than the first upper limit (V1).
