684,419. Tubular heat-exchangers. CLARKSON THIMBLE TUBE BOILER CO., Ltd. March 1, 1951 [March 2, 1950], No. 5362/50. Class 64 (iii) A tubular heat-exchanger for heating water, particularly by waste gases, e.g. from I.C. engines, comprises rows of tubes 7 connecting two opposite tube plates 3, 5 on the outer sides of which are headerchambers 13, 15 closed by removable covers 21, 31 and internally divided by baffles 41, 51 so that groups of the tubes are connected in series, removable side walls 100, 105 (both not shown) co-operating with the tube plates to enclose the tube bank. The covers 21, 31 are held against side flanges and against flanges 16a, 17a on bent-over parts of the plates 3, 5, by nuts 39 and rods 23 extending through some of the tubes 7. Baffle plates 112, 132 form a double pass of decreasing cross-sectional area from the inlet 117 to the outlet 123 for the heating gases. A soot blower 151 is provided in the first pass, and a soot blower lance may be inserted into the second pass through holes 159 with removable covers. Soot collecting in the chamber 138 may be removed through hand-holes 143. The Provisional Specification describes the provision, in the chamber 138, of a semi-cylindrical guide wall with slits or holes for the passage of soot into a subjacent chamber, and a modifled heatexchanger in which the two gas passes are connected in parallel, with an inlet chamber at the bottom and an outlet chamber at the top. |
