PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light deflecting apparatus, using a liquid crystal element of new configuration and suitable for appreciating a three-dimensional video.SOLUTION: The light deflecting apparatus is provided corresponding to each eye of a user, and includes: a first and second light deflecting liquid crystal cell having a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules with positive dielectric anisotropy and exhibiting a cholesteric blue phase in the voltage-free state, a pair of transparent substrates holding the liquid crystal layer. a pair of transparent electrodes formed on the pair of transparent substrates, and a prism layer formed on one of the pair of transparent substrates; and a driving device, switching between a first state of applying voltage to put the first and the second light deflecting liquid crystal cells in a homeotropic phase and a cholesteric blue phase respectively, and a second state of applying voltage to put the first and the second light deflecting liquid crystal cells in a cholesteric blue phase and a homeotropic phase respectively. |
