PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an failure detection device which can protect a speaker by unfailingly detecting failures of an operation of an LPF at an output stage in a class D amplifier.SOLUTION: The failure detection device S detects failures of the operation of a converting means 3 for converting a pulse-like drive signal Spwm corresponding to a sound discharged from a speaker means 4 to generate a conversion signal Sd and outputting the generated conversion signal Sd to the speaker means 4. The detection device includes a determining means 2 for determining whether the pulse-like drive signal Spwm is detected on an output end of the conversion signal Sd in the converting means 3; and a generating means 1 for generating an failure generation signal Sdt indicating that an failure occurs in the operation of the converting means 3 when it is determined that the pulse-like drive signal Spwm is detected in the output end.
