PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an encoding technology that improves the edge detection accuracy of an object or background included in an image by using a distance image and obscures degradation in image quality.SOLUTION: The image encoder includes: a main image acquisition means for acquiring a main image obtained by imaging an object; a distance image acquisition means for acquiring the distance image that indicates a distance to the object; an edge detection means that determines that, when dividing the distance image into a plurality of blocks and including a boundary between an object on a near side and an object on a far side, a block including an image region wherein the boundary is indicated as an edge in the distance image is high in edge intensity; a code amount determination means that, when dividing the main image into a plurality of blocks, assigns the larger code amount than a reference value to the block of the main image corresponding to the block that is determined high in edge intensity in the distance image by the edge detection means; and an encoding means that encodes the main image according to the code amount determined by the code amount determination means. |
