PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing pentamethylene diamine or a salt thereof having reduced amount of impurities in a high yield, and the pentamethylene diamine or a salt thereof obtained by the preparation method.SOLUTION: The method comprises extracting pentamethylene diamine or a salt thereof from an aqueous solution containing the pentamethylene diamine or a salt thereof using a 4-7C monohydric alcohol.
