Disclosed is an transparent organic EL element that can reliably form an auxiliary electrode upon a second electrode layer by means of a simple process and that enables a reduction in the resistance of the second electrode layer without causing short-circuiting even if the alignment is off. The transparent organic EL electrode is provided with a transparent substrate, a first transparent electrode layer that is formed in stripes upon the abovementioned transparent substrate, insulating partition walls that are formed, upon the abovementioned transparent substrate upon which the abovementioned first transparent electrode layer has been formed, in stripes in a direction orthogonal to the lengthwise direction of the abovementioned first transparent electrode layer, an organic EL layer that is formed upon the abovementioned first transparent electrode layer within a light-emitting region between the abovementioned partition walls and that includes a light-emitting layer, a second transparent electrode layer that is formed upon the abovementioned organic EL layer and is divided by the abovementioned partition walls, and a first auxiliary electrode group that is formed upon the abovementioned second transparent electrode layer and has a plurality of fine metal wires arranged in parallel, wherein the transparent organic EL element is characterized in that 0° 1 1 is the angle formed by the lengthwise direction of the abovementioned partition walls and the extending direction of the fine wires in the abovementioned first auxiliary electrode group, and/or in that the pitch of the fine wires in the abovementioned first auxiliary electrode group is narrower than the pitch of the abovementioned partition walls.
