The disclosed inverter device is provided with an inverter circuit having first switching elements (328U-328W) for an upper arm and second switching elements (330U-330W) for a lower arm, a control circuit (319) which outputs a first signal as ON/OFF commands for the first switching elements and a second signal as ON/OFF commands for the second switching elements, first drive circuits (610U-610W) which drive the ON/OFF states of the first semiconductor switching elements on the basis of the ON/OFF commands of the first signal, and second drive circuits (611U-611W) which drive the ON/OFF states of the second semiconductor switching elements on the basis of the ON/OFF commands of the second signal, and signal switching units (616U-616W) which input the first and second signal outputted from the control circuits directly into the corresponding first and second drive circuits, respectively, when at least one of the first and second signals is an OFF command, but, when both the first and second signals are an ON command, block the input of the first signal to the first drive circuit and the input of the second signal to the second drive circuit, and input a third signal, an OFF command, to the first and second control circuits.
