PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber precursor acrylic fiber bundle improving deterioration of operability with scales produced when a precursor fiber bundle to which a treating agent using a silicone compound as a principal component is applied is baked or the deterioration of physical properties of the carbon fiber bundle produced when the precursor fiber bundle to which a non-silicone-based treating agent is applied is baked, and to provide a method for producing the carbon fiber bundle having excellent mechanical properties and quality.SOLUTION: The treating agent includes 60-100 mass% of following components [A] and [B] in the treating agent, and the total pickup of the following components [A] and [B] in the treating agent is 0.05-3.0 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the fiber bundle. Furthermore, the mass ratio [A]:[B] in the treating agent is within the range of (30:70)-(70:30). [A] a modified silicone; and [B] a monoester or a diester of a carboxylic acid having 4-8C monovalent branched type saturated hydrocarbon with a monohydric or a dihydric alcohol having 3-20C monovalent hydrocarbon.
