The invention relates to a device for the production of biomass consisting of a photobioreactor with at least one photosynthesis unit (2, 2), a conduit system (3) comprising valves and at least one system pump (13) and a monitoring and control device (4), said bioreactor being or capable of being operatively connected to peripheral devices, i.e. at least one device (5) for collecting produced biomass and a cleaning and disinfecting device (6). According to the invention, at least the photobioreactor is located in a container (1) that can be transported as a transport unit without additional protection and stabilisation measures or protection elements. The photobioreactor can remain in said container (1) during the cultivation of the phototrophic or mixotrophic organisms and the design of the container (1) ensures that the photosynthesis unit or units (2, 2) are supplied with the light required for the cultivation. In a preferred embodiment, the photobioreactor forms an integral unit with the collecting device (5) and the cleaning and disinfecting device (6) and is situated together with said devices in a container (1).
