Class 125(ii) In a rotary counterpressure bottling machine comprising a reservoir 36 connected by liquid and gas passages 156, 178 to valves 34 feeding bottles C through filling nozzles 106, the reservoir 36 being supplied from a high pressure gas pipe 46 through a float-operated reducing valve 64, the duration of the counterpressuring stage is reduced by supplying through momentarily aligned passages of predetermined cross-section the counterpressure gas at a pressure greater than that in the reservoir so that the pressure in the bottle C will not exceed that in the reservoir. In an example the pressure in the reservoir is five to six pounds and that in the pipe 46, thirty pounds. Gas also flows through a pipe 74 and-a regulator 78 to a second reservoir 76 connected to an annular manifold 82 to which each valve 34 is connected by a pipe 84, the pressure in the manifold being maintained at eighteen pounds. The valve 34 connects the counterpressure pipe 84 to the bottle only long enough for the pressure in the latter to reach four pounds. The passages of the valve 34 are arranged to perform the following connections in sequence: connect the counterpressure pipe 84 to the bottle; connect the liquid and gas pipes 156, 178 to the bottle; snift the bottle and the gas pipe 178 to atmosphere; and, after removal of the bottle, blow out the return gas passages 117, 164 to atmosphere. A separate counterpressure pipe and the return gas passage 117 are provided in the filling nozzle and both lead into a chamber 115 which connects to the bottle through a spiral passage 114. The return gas passage 117 includes a restriction 119 to reduce the rising of liquid into the valve 34 and the other gas passages. The pipes 178 open into a separator chamber 180.</p> |
