Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii) A hinge connecting a movable closure, such as an engine bonnet 13, to a vehicle body 12 comprises a pair of links 27, 33 pivoted at their upper ends to spaced points 31 and 34 respectively on the bonnet, a pivotal connection 26 between the lower end of link 27 and a bracket 19 secured to the body, a link 29 pivoted intermediate its ends at 28 to the bracket, a pivotal connection 32 between the lower end of link 33 and one end of link 29, and a link 37 pivoted at its respective ends to the opposite end of link 29 at 36, and to link 27 at 38. As shown, a tension spring 39 is connected between link 27 and link 29, and a torsion spring 43 is connected between link 33 and the pivot pin 32 which is fixed to link 29. The arrangement is such that spring 43 tends continuously to raise the bonnet to the open position, while spring 39 in the open position of the bonnet lies above the pivots 26, 28 and urges the bonnet open, a flange 47 on link 27 then abutting link 29, but in the closed position of the bonnet lies below the pivots 26, 28 and draws the bonnet down upon a weather strip 46 fixed to the body. |
