METHOD FOR PRODUCING (ELECTRO)LUMINESCENT, PHOTOACTIVE OR ELECTRICALLY (SEMI)CONDUCTING POLYMERS

The invention relates to the production of poly(arylene-vinylenes) and related polymers, the polymerization of which is triggered photochemically. To this end, the low molecular weight reactants are first cooled down to such low temperatures that, while said reactants are activated to form typically quinoid intermediate stages (the "active" monomer), no or barely any thermally induced polymerization of the reactants takes place. Instead, the polymerization is triggered in a separate step by electromagnetic radiation of suitable wavelength - either by utilizing the absorption behavior of the low molecular weight starting compounds/the monomers, or mediated by photoinitiators and/or sensitizers. This method can be used, for example, to coat a display with poly(arylene-vinylenes). For this purpose, the monomer is applied. The polymer is then produced in a photo-induced manner. The remaining monomer is washed off. The process takes place at low temperatures.
