PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film excellent in polarization characteristics, a luminance enhancing performance and a contrast.SOLUTION: The optical film has a sea-island structure comprising a dispersed phase (I) and a continuous phase (II). The dispersed phase (I) includes a polyethylene naphthalate based resin (P) as a main component, and the continuous phase (II) includes an acrylic resin (S) and rubber (R) as main components. A refractive index difference between the dispersed phase (I); and the continuous phase (II) of an axis vertical to the orientation direction of the dispersed phase (I) and parallel to an optical film surface, is larger than 0.05 and smaller than 0.1.
