PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carboxylic acid ester-modified phenol resin which can greatly improve hardness and modulus, since the resin is excellent in compatibility with rubber when the resin is added to rubber, and thus, the resin does not cause exothermic deterioration, and to provide the rubber composition which is formulated with the resin.SOLUTION: The invention relates to the carboxylic acid ester-modified phenol resin in which at least a part of a phenolic hydroxyl group, which a novolak type phenol resin has, is esterified with a carboxylic acid, which has an unsaturated double bond, and/or its anhydride. The invention also relates to the rubber composition which is formulated with the carboxylic acid ester-modified phenol resin. |
