Disclosed is a vehicle speed reduction device which is provided with a planetary gear mechanism; a case which houses the planetary gear mechanism; a first brake; and a second brake; said planetary gear mechanism comprising a sun gear, a stepped pinion whereon a first gear engaging with the sun gear is coaxially connected to a second gear having a smaller number of teeth than the first gear, a first ring gear which engages with the first gear, a second ring gear which engages with the second gear, and a carrier which outputs the orbital motion of the stepped pinion. The vehicle speed reduction device outputs the rotation of the carrier when either one of the first brake and the second brake is in an engaged state.
