PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a barbed suture thread or a barbed staple, and also to improve a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: A compound barb medical device is provided which includes a main part 14 and at least one barb 12 extending from the main part. At least the one barb defines an inner surface. The inner surface of at least the one barb 12 includes a first section 12a disposed at a first orientation relative to a longitudinal axis of the main part and a second section 12b disposed at a second orientation relative to the longitudinal axis. At least the one barb 12 is made of a shape memory material. The shape memory material changes its shape from a permanent shape to a temporary shape. When the shape memory material is in the temporary shape, the barb projects from a first position with respect to the main part. When the shape memory material is in the permanent shape, the barb projects from a second position different from the first position. |
