The outer circumference of an image projected from a projection video display device onto a wall is prevented from being falsely detected as a screen frame. A projecting unit (10) projects an image onto a plane (300) of projection through a lens. An image-pickup unit (30) captures an image of the plane of projection. When a predetermined pattern for detecting a screen frame is projected by the projecting unit (10), a screen-frame detecting unit (40) detects the screen frame from the image captured by the image-pickup unit (30). When a predetermined pattern for estimating a projection area is projected, a projection-area estimating unit (50) calculates the outer circumferential shape of the projection area from the image captured by the image-pickup unit. A determining unit (60) determines whether or not the screen frame substantially corresponds to the outer circumferential shape of the projection area, and determines that the screen frame is falsely detected when the screen frame substantially corresponds to the outer circumferential shape of the projection area.
