A thin glass plate (G) having a thickness of 500 µm or less can be produced by pouring a molten glass (Gm) into an over flow groove (2) formed on the top of a molded article (1) and, at the same time, allowing a portion of the molten glass (Gm) which is spilled out of the over flow groove (2) toward two directions to run down along a nearly wedge-shaped outer surface (4) of the molded article (1) so that the flows of the molten glass (Gm) are integrated into each other at the lower end part of the molded article (1). In this process, for the purpose of reducing the amount of detached flakes of primary zircon crystal particles that constitute the surface of the molded article (1), the viscosity of the molten glass (Gm) that flows over the outer surface of the molded article (1) is adjusted to 3000 to 30000 dPa·s inclusive on the whole area of the outer surface of the molded article (1).
|
