PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce toner consumption of displacement correction patterns as much as possible.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an instruction device to give an instruction to perform the displacement correction to adjust the position of an image to be formed on a conveyor; a detector to detect the predetermined number of displacement correction pattern images formed by an image former in response to the instruction given by the instruction device; a calculator to calculate the displacement amount of the image formed by the image former based on the detection result obtained by the detector; and a controller to control the image forming condition of the image to be formed by the image former based on the calculated displacement amount. The controller is configured to reduce the number of displacement correction pattern images formed in response to the instruction given by the instruction device within an allowable range in accordance with the comparison result between the displacement amount related to the prescribed number of displacement correction pattern images, calculated from the detection results obtained by the detector, and a first or second predetermined threshold.
