A compound represented by general formula (I), a salt of the compound, or a solvate or a hydrate of the compound or the salt, which has a different mechanism of action from those of statin-type medicinal agents and is effective for the prevention or treatment of arteriosclerosis. In the formula, R1 represents an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic acyloxy group, or a group represented by formula -O-CH(R7)-R8, wherein R7 represents a lower alkoxy group and R8 represents an aryl group; and R2 represents a carboxyl group, a lower alkoxycarbonyl group, an arylmethylcarbamoyl group, or a -CH2-acyloxy group and R3 represents an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic acyloxy group, wherein at least one of R4 and R3 represents a group other than an acetoxy group or R2 and R3 together form a group represented by formula -O-CH(R5)-O-, wherein R5 represents an aryl group. |
