With a simple mechanism, slacking of an ink ribbon can be prevented when an ink ribbon cassette is not attached to a color printer, and printing errors can be prevented even if the position of the ink ribbon cassette is wrong when the cassette is attached to the color printer. An ink ribbon cassette is provided with a cassette case comprising a plurality of openings arranged at a plurality of different positions; an ink ribbon supply shaft and an ink ribbon winding shaft rotatably supported by the cassette case and provided with a gear-like stopper in the rotational direction; and a locking part which locks the ink ribbon supply shaft and the ink ribbon winding shaft by engaging with the stopper, and releases the lock of the ink ribbon supply shaft and the ink ribbon winding shaft when at least one pin is inserted in at least one opening which has been determined to correspond to a type of the ink ribbon, among the plurality of openings formed on the cassette case.
