Provided is a nonaqueous electrolyte having a reduced diethyl carbonate ratio intended to maintain good low-temperature characteristics and to suppress gas generation during high-temperature storage and the charge-discharge cycle. Also provided is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having excellent safety that uses the same. The nonaqueous medium of the nonaqueous electrolyte used in the secondary battery comprises ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate, diethyl carbonate, and additive. The additive is at least one selected from a fluorinated aromatic compound having a molecular weight of 90 to 200 and a fatty acid alkyl ester having a molecular weight of 80 to 240. The weight ratio of ethylene carbonate WEC, the weight ratio of propylene carbonate WPC, the weight ratio of diethyl carbonate WDEC, and the weight ratio of additive WLV, each in terms of the total amount of nonaqueous electrolyte, is 5 to 30 wt%, 15 to 60 wt%, 10 to 50 wt%, and 5 to 35 wt%, respectively. |
