A control system and method for electric vehicle with a second-speed gearbox belong to the field of the motor control of the electric vehicle. The system comprises an operation mode module (1) and a control module (2). The method comprises: when the system receives a user control directive, it will determine the operation mode of the electric vehicle and send a control command to switch over to the preset operation mode. The invention can provide stable and reliable drive control by the preset operation modes of the electric vehicle so as to control the operation mode and the output torque of the motor according to the control command of a vehicle controller.
