The method involves determining distance (OA1) of an object in a motor car environment using a sensor i.e. radar detector, where lower edge of the object is viewable. Spacing (MA) between feature points related to the object is determined from an image of the object at a point of time using the determined object distance, where the image of the object is obtained by a camera in an image processing system. Another object distance from the camera image at another point of time is determined based on measurement of size of the object, and pitch angle of the camera is calibrated. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining and tracking position of objects in an environment of a motor car.
