Class 44 [Also in Group XXX] A lock for a cable cord or line under tension consists of a base plate which carries a pivot, on which is mounted a two-armed lever having unequally long arms and an upstanding abutment fixed adjacent the shorter arm, the arrangement being such that the cable may be passed over the end of the longer arm of the lever and between the abutment and the shorter trailing end, and the cable engages the end of the longer arm of the lever so as to rotate the lever causing the end of the shorter arm to grip and lock the cable with a force greater than the tension in the cable. As shown, a base plate 36 which may be formed as a wall plate carries an abutment 42 and a pivot 45 on which is mounted the lever 46. The cable passes downwards from. the overhead pulley of a kitchen appliance, under the longer end of the lever and between the shorter end of the lever and the abutment, the two ends of the lever being formed with grooves to locate the cable. A raised portion 41 of the base limits movement of the lever. In the preferred form shown the plate 36 is rotatably mounted in a wall plate 30, a pin 39 locking the former in position. By pulling out the pin 39 plate 36 is rotated by the tension in the cable and caused to release the latter. |
