DETECTING SALIENCY IN AN IMAGE

Saliency in an image (IM) is detected by determining a one-dimensional saliency profile (SP) along an axis of the image on the basis of at least one one-dimensional saliency detection (SBG) applied along the axis of the image. The one-dimensional saliency profile provides saliency information that is obtained with modest computational effort. An image can satisfactorily be processed in dependence on the one-dimensional saliency profile. Aspect ratio conversion is an example.
