PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a processing amount for selecting a code table for encoding time-series data from among a plurality of types of code tables.SOLUTION: A method for selecting a code table includes determining frequencies h(x) of data values x of time-series data in predetermined discrete time zones; by using a plurality of types of code tables T(j) in each of which the respective data values x and respective codes c(x, j) at least corresponding to the respective data values x are related to each other, and the respective determined frequencies h(x), calculating for the respective code tables T(j) the sums of products SP(j)=Σh(x)×b(x, j) of the frequencies h(x) of at least part of data values x and the number of bits b(x, j) of codes c(x, j) corresponding to the data values x; and by using the calculated sums of products SP(j), selecting the code table for encoding the time-series data in the discrete time zones from the plurality of types of code tables T(j). |
