PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle rear monitoring device that improves safety of a vehicle driving when a vehicle starts backward.SOLUTION: A vehicle rear monitoring method is provided for monitoring a rear of the vehicle having a backup light. The method includes: a step (S1100) of acquiring a parameter relevant to illuminance of the rear of the vehicle; a step (S1600) of using a photographed image of the rear of the vehicle to perform an obstacle detection processing, after the vehicle starts backward, when a difference of the parameter before and after the vehicle starts backward is larger than a threshold (S1500: NO); and a step (S1700) of issuing a warning to a driver of the vehicle without performing the obstacle detection processing, after the vehicle starts backward, when the difference of the parameter before and after the vehicle starts backward is smaller than the threshold (S1500: YES). |
