The device has an applicator (114) for applying the liquid on the flap (110) or the glued surface of the envelope (112), an inlet (116) with an end (116a) for receiving the liquid and another end, which is fluidly coupled with the applicator. A magnetic liquid treatment unit (120) is arranged at the position along the inlet. The unit is effective to avoid or to reduce an accumulation in the inlet or the applicator. The accumulation is generated by a substance contained in the liquid. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an inserter with a reservoir; and (2) a method for providing a liquid for applying on a flap or a glued surface of an envelope coming from a filling station of an inserter.
