PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device enabling a user to satisfactorily view an image.SOLUTION: The image display device 1 is equipped with: display device bodies 2A and 2B that form first image light and second image light respectively and respectively emit the formed first image light and second image light as respective linearly polarized light beams whose polarization directions are perpendicular to each other; and an image selection device 3 that is constituted separately from the display device bodies 2A and 2B, and has a first transmission part through which the first image light is transmitted and a second transmission part through which the second image light is transmitted. The display device bodies 2A and 2B each include a retardation plate 225 which is disposed such that its optical axis is perpendicular to a light axis of the first image light or the second image light, and rotates centering around an axis parallel with the light axis. |
