PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately diagnose chipping, wear and the like of a cutting edge of a cutting tool of a machine tool.SOLUTION: An optical linear scale 29 is provided in a manner to extend in the X-axis direction on an X-axis slide guide 17 of an X-axis slide mechanism 16. The optical linear scale 29 detects the position in the X-axis direction of a Z-axis slide 25 (Z-axis slide guide 22) of a Z-axis slide mechanism 21. When the cutting edge of the cutting tool held on the Z-axis slide 25 side has chipping or wear, the cutting edge of the cutting tool vibrates. The vibration of the cutting edge appears as a vibration in the X-axis direction of the Z-axis slide 25 (Z-axis slide guide 22). Focusing on such a characteristic, the cutting edge condition of the cutting tool is diagnosed based on the vibration amplitude of output signals of the linear scale 29 (vibration amplitude in the X-axis direction of the Z-axis slide 25), while an X-axis motor 19 of the X-axis slide mechanism 16 is stop during cutting. |
