PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conjugated aromatic compound and an optical material which have high dispersion characteristics (Abbe's number (νd)) of refractive index, high secondary dispersion characteristics (θg, F) (abnormal dispersion characteristics) and high chromatic aberration correction function.SOLUTION: The conjugated aromatic compound is represented by formula (1) (wherein Aris hydrogen atom or optionally substituted aryl group; one of Arand Aris optionally substituted aryl group and the other is hydrogen atom, or both are chosen from optionally substituted aryl groups; and A is aromatic hydrocarbon group). The optical material comprises the conjugated aromatic compound. |
