The device has light reflective surfaces e.g. scattered reflection surfaces, controllably reflecting light to light receivers e.g. photo transistors, where the device detects actual position of layer-variable component (14) i.e. spring biased force sensor, relative to housing (12) according to required reflected light detected by the light receiver. The light is emitted from light sources e.g. LEDs. The light source and light receiver are arranged one after another in a component and in various directions, and the light reflective surfaces form an angle. An independent claim is also included for a laundry treatment apparatus comprising a sensor arrangement.
