PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optically compensated film constituted of a coating film which has a large phase difference in the thickness direction of the film by coating and has less wavelength dependence on the phase difference.SOLUTION: The optically compensated film is obtained, by coating a solution comprising maleimide resin and a solvent mixture composed of 10-40 wt.% of a nitrile-based solvent, 0-30 wt.% of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and 50-70 wt.% of toluene. When arbitrary two axes perpendicularly crossing within the plane of the optically compensated film are defined as an x axis and a y axis, an out-of-plane direction is defined as a z axis; a refractive index in the x axis direction is defined as nx; a refractive index in the y axis direction is defined as ny and a refractive index in the z axis direction is defined as nz; a three-dimensional refractive index relation is nx approximately equal to ny>nz; and an out-of-plane direction birefringence (ΔP) is ≥0.007. |
