In a ship's side light, cabin window or the like having a non-ferrous base 3 comprising the hinge lugs mounted on a steel frame 1 which is subsequently welded in the opening in the ship's plating 8, the hinge lugs 3 are mounted to project at right angles from corresponding steel lugs 2 which are welded to the steel frame 1 so as to project at right angles from the latter. In the case of an outwardly opening side light the fastening lugs 4 are secured to the inside of the frame 1 and are L-shaped, bifurcated to receive the screw 5 which is drawn up by the nut 6.
