A latch and release device for a slide assembly having first and second rails 12,14 slidably mounted relative to each other comprises: an engaging member 20 that includes a resilient arm 30 and an engaging portion 32 which in use faces the first rail; and an operation member 22 which includes a first end 44, a second end [46, Fig. 2] and a body 48 which is pivotably connected, e.g. via pivotal member 40, to the second rail 14, wherein the first end 44 of the operation member contacts the resilient arm 30 such that when the second end of the operation member is shifted, e.g. via handle member 50, the resilient arm 30 is moved by the first end of the operation member thus disengaging the engaging portion 32 from a latch 18 which may be provided on the first rail 12. When the engaging portion 32 is engaged with the latch of the first rail, the second slide is unable to slide relative to the first rail. The operation member 22 preferably passes through an opening formed in the second rail. A slide assembly comprising a latch and release device is also disclosed. |
