The device has an energy storage device (9) provided with a control electronic and a switch. The switch is switched by the electronics into an energy intake position when detecting a regenerating condition of an inverter (5) such that an energy storage unit (11) is operated parallel to an intermediate circuit condenser (8), and absorbs energy from an intermediate circuit (6). The inverter includes a switching output for a switching signal detected by a detection unit. The detection unit detects the inverter regenerating condition when the signal lies against the switching output. An independent claim is also included for a method for intermediate storage of electrical brake energy of an engine.
