<p>A device for handling liquid which is rotatable about an axis of rotation to drive liquid flow within the device comprises one or more aliquoting structures having a plurality of chained chambers 100, 200, 300 for providing a plurality of aliquots, wherein each chamber comprises an inlet, an outlet attached to outlet conduit 106, 206, 306 and an overflow 116, 216. The overflow 116 of a first chamber 100 connects to the inlet of the second chamber 200 and so on. The outlet conduit comprises an upstream portion (fig 1; 110) connected to a downstream portion (fig 1; 112) via a curve or bend or crest (fig 1; 108) wherein the curve is positioned radially inwards of the overflow the respective conduit, i.e. it is positioned closer to the axis of rotation. Dispensing of aliquots is controlled by the rotation of the device such that at high frequency the outflow from the outlet into the outlet conduit is blocked so that the chambers 100, 200, 300 are filled via the overflows. When the device is decelerated the capillary siphon action is greater than the centrifugal force so liquid flows from the conduit.</p> |
