A process for coating a turbine vane (10) includes the steps of applying a coating to line of sight surfaces with a thermal spraying process (12), and applying a slurry coating to non-line of sight surfaces (22). The coating provides oxidative protection and desired thermal protection. Moreover, the applied coating on both the line of sight and non-line of sight surfaces provides a bond layer for the application of a ceramic coating (34).
