Class 35 A single or polyphase induction generator system whose output is of constant voltage and frequency irrespective of speed, comprises a master generator 1 supplying constant frequency exciting current to the stator 2 of a first induction generator, whose rotor 3 is driven by the same mover 7 as the rotor 4 of a second induction generator, the rotors being connected together in reverse phase rotation. The voltage generated in the rotor 3 of the first generator has a frequency equal to the sum of the excitation frequency from the master machine 1 and the frequency of rotation. This voltage is applied to the rotor 4 of the output generator in inverted phase sequence so that, since the rotor is driven at the same speed as the first machine, the frequency obtained is lowered again by an amount equal to the frequency of rotation and the output of stator 5 has a frequency equal to that of the master generator 1. Constant voltage is maintained by connecting the output of stator 5 to a compounding winding 9 on stator 2, a voltage regulator 10 also being used if required. In the form shown, the load 8 is connected to the stator 5 but in a modification it is coupled to the stator winding 2. It is stated that the amount and phase of back-coupling may be such that one machine acts as an inductance and the other as a capacitance.</p> |
