Door closer 10 comprising a lever 15 that is moveable from a first position to a second position when a door is opened, where the lever imparts energy to a resilient biasing element 12, such as a spring, when the door is opened and is urged back to the first position by the biasing element when the door is released, closing the door; whereby the lever is connected to a generator 29 to generate electricity as the door closes. Preferably there is an electronic control circuit including a damping control circuit that controls the output of the generator to control the damping of the movement of the lever as the door closes, a battery charged by the generator, a rectifier circuit that prevents the battery driving the generator, a voltage increasing/decreasing circuit to reduce/increase the load on the generator to allow the speed of the generator to increase/reduce, a power output terminal for an output device and a positional feedback transponder that monitors the position of the lever, wherein the damping control circuit may be responsive to an output signal from the positional sensor to alter the speed of movement of the lever. |
