An ablation instrument (100) comprising a body (10) having a distal end (1) and a substantially cylindrical side surface. An ablating member is coupled toward the distal end of the body, the ablating member comprises a lesion wire (5) which extends through the substantially cylindrical side surface of the body. A portion of the lesion wire extends along the body and is spaced from the substantially cylindrical side surface. The wire is used to create lesions in a target tissue while the body isolates the surrounding tissue from the target tissue.
